    拿到這本由死神路克所掉落的死亡筆記本的人，是日本的高中生“夜神月”。月將世界上一個(gè)個(gè)犯罪者的名字寫(xiě)進(jìn)筆記本上殺掉，他相信這樣的行為會(huì)是正義，誓言要將世界變成一個(gè)沒(méi)有犯罪者的新世界，而他將是這個(gè)新世界的神。發(fā)現(xiàn)有人在制裁犯罪者的一般民眾，開(kāi)始稱(chēng)呼這位制裁者為“奇樂(lè)（KIRA）”（KIRA為Killer的日文拼音，意思是殺手。）另一方面，察覺(jué)到奇樂(lè)出現(xiàn)的ICPO（國(guó)際刑警組織，Interpol），委托一個(gè)名為“L”的偵探來(lái)調(diào)查奇樂(lè)事件。L是唯一能動(dòng)員全世界警察的人，世界上很多陷入膠著的案件都是由他查出。他的本名、長(zhǎng)相、居住地等，完全沒(méi)有人知道。認(rèn)為奇樂(lè)是罪惡的L，用巧妙而大膽的方式證明出“奇樂(lè)你就在日本關(guān)東地區(qū)”，在日本設(shè)立搜查總部挑戰(zhàn)奇樂(lè)。奇樂(lè)和L，從此為了揭露彼此的真面目，也為了彼此的正義展開(kāi)了一連串的斗智。
